County police approve collective bargaining

By Rachel Lippmann, KWMU

St. Louis – St. Louis County police officers have voted to have the county's Police Association should represent them in contract negotiations.

It is the first collective bargaining agreement for the department.

Police Association president Bob Frohne said civilian authorities in all governments often try to micro-manage police departments they know little about.

"It gives us an opportunity to get a seat at the table and provide a little additional input," Frohne said.

Seventy-one percent of the county's 560 police officers approved the agreement. It does not apply to commanding officers like sergeants.
