De Soto Schools Cancel Rest of This Year's Classes
De Soto, Mo. – School is officially out for De Soto students and staff.
District Superintendent Terry Noble made official what many had suspected. Extensive storm damage to school buildings last week forced the decision. At the junior high school, the gymnasium's roof collapsed.
Other town buildings that might have served as classrooms were either not big enough to accommodate the district's 2,800 students or were significantly damaged by the fierce weather.
Graduation will still be held on May 31st, but likely will be moved to Hillsboro because the high school football field, where the ceremony was to take place, was ravaged by the storm. The prom
will still be on May 17th. The state said last week that makeup days would be waived for De Soto and other school districts affected by last week's storms.
