Death Row Clemency Hearings Continue In Illinois

By AP/KWMU

Chicago, IL – The father of an Addison woman whose baby was cut from her womb after she was killed says Governor George Ryan
should listen to the families of the victims of death row inmates. Sam Evans testified today at clemency hearings for Fedell Caffey
and Jacqueline Williams, who are on death row for killing Debra Evans and two of her children in 1995. Both seek clemency as part
of the Illinois Prisoner Review Board's review of all death penalty cases. Evans told the board that Ryan doesn't appear to want to hear
from the victims' families. In his words, "Must we kill someone in the state of Illinois to be heard?"
Caffey's lawyer says his client continues to maintain he is innocent of the crime. Williams' attorney says his client may have
been convicted by a prejudiced jury.
