St. Louis, Mo. – Delta Airlines has begun new service from St. Louis to its Salt Lake City hub.

With the new departures, Lambert Airport has now added 27 new flights since American announced more than 200 flight cuts in July. Those cuts took effect Saturday.

St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay says the airport will bounce back, but it will take time.

"This isn't by itself necessarily going to dictate the future of Lambert, but what it demonstrates is there are opportunities here, and there are other airlines here that are taking advantage of those opportunities in the vacuum that has been left by American Airlines," Slay said.

Frontier Airlines is also adding new service to Denver. Lambert Airport Director Leonard Griggs says the discount carrier is now operating two ticket counters that had been vacant for ten years.
