Downtown Ceremony Highlights King Day Observance

By Matt Sepic, KWMU

St. Louis – Several ceremonies around the region marked Martin Luther King Day Monday.

At the Old Courthouse in downtown St. Louis, several hundred people gathered to hear religious leaders and elected officials remember the slain civil rights leader.

St. Louis Comptroller Darlene Green highlighted several issues important to the Black community in St. Louis.

"The struggle still continues when we fight for fairness in our own fire department," Green said. "The struggle still continues when we struggle for a civilian police review board."

The event concluded with a march from the Old Courthouse to Powell Symphony Hall.
