Drew to appear in LA court today

By KWMU, AP

SAINT LOUIS, MO – A Missouri woman's scheduled appearance in federal court today moves the venue of her high profile case to the Los Angeles home base of My Space.

Lori Drew is accused of using the social networking web site to take part in a hoax against a 13 year-old neighbor who committed suicide.

The 49 year-old suburban St. Louis woman allegedly help create a fake My Space account to convince Megan Meier she was chatting with a nonexistent 16 year-old boy named Josh Evans. She was indicted on charges of conspiracy and fraudulently gaining access to someone else's computer.

Meier hanged herself at her Dardenne Prairie home in October 2006, allegedly after receiving a dozen or more cruel messages. One of them stated that the world would be better off without her.

Drew has denied creating the account or sending messages to Meier.
