East St. Louis police investigate burglary at Dunham home

By AP/KWMU

East St. Louis, Ill. – Police in East St. Louis are investigating the burglary of a house that once belonged to the late dance pioneer Katherine Dunham.

Investigators said a stove, refrigerator, a bed and other items are missing, although they're awaiting a complete list of the home's contents to see what else may have been stolen.

Police suspect the break-in took place within the past two or three weeks before being reported Tuesday night.

Dunham moved to East St. Louis in 1967 and lived there until her death in 2006 at the age of 96.

She was known not only for her dancing, but as a choreographer, author, civil rights activist and anthropologist.
