Edwards, Kerry, Sharpton Make St. Louis Visits

By Matt Sepic, KWMU

St. Louis – Three Democratic presidential candidates visited St. Louis Wednesday--more than a week after favorite son Dick Gephardt dropped out of the race.

John Kerry rallied at Forest Park Community College, and John Edwards scheduled a stop at a University City restaurant.

At the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the Rev. Al Sharpton urged young people to go to the polls and the Democratic party to return to its roots.

"We did not engage in this process to try to get some attentions and leave," Sharpton said. "We're trying to deal with the redirection of the party and the redirection of America."

Sharpton also criticized the Iraq war and the Bush tax cuts. Missouri's primary is Tuesday.
