East St. Louis, ILL. – Nate Anderson resigned Monday as superintendent of the East St. Louis School District. He says the job was an overdose of hierarchy and bureaucracy.

School Board President Lonzo Greenwood blames Anderson's decision to leave on interference by a state oversight panel. The district has been under state spending oversight because of financial difficulties in the past.

The 53-year-old Anderson has been in the district's top job more than five years.

Greenwood says a committee will be formed to work with Anderson to pick his successor for the $120,000-a-year job.

The resignation takes effect June 30th.
