Excessive heat warning in effect through 7 p.m.

St. Louis – Temperatures could reach 99 degrees today, and the excessive heat warning from the National Weather Service remains in effect until 7 o'clock tonight.

Today's heat index reading, which estimates the perceived effect of temperature and relative humidity, could exceed 110 degrees again.

On Monday afternoon the heat index in St. Louis reached 112.

For those without air conditioning, dozens of cooling centers are open around the region.
