Clayton, Mo. – The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating a blast that left a prominent St. Louis-area attorney injured.
A package exploded Thursday in a Clayton parking garage after John Gillis, 69, picked it up. Gillis is expected to survive.
A high-rise office building, a residential building and a hotel were evacuated after the explosion. No one else was hurt.
Gillis is a senior attorney at the Armstrong-Teasdale law firm.
He is also chairman of the board of directors of Aquinas Institute of Theology, a Roman Catholic institution in St. Louis.
No arrests have been made. Investigators do not know if Gillis was the intended target.
