Edwardsville, Ill. – The family of three people killed in a Carlinville house explosion is suing Ameren I-P and a local heating and air conditioning company.

A relative administering the estates of Margaret Hatlen, her son and grandson filed the lawsuit last week.

Authorities suspect a natural gas leak caused the August Second explosion at the Carlinville home.

The lawsuit claims the utility didn't properly inspect the house to prevent gas leaks, didn't odorize its natural gas and ran the gas at an excessive pressure through lines at the house.

The lawsuit accuses Area Heating and Air Conditioning of not properly installing a water heater at the home.
