Feds launch website in effort to solve bank robberies

By Matt Sepic, St. Louis Public Radio

St. Louis – Federal investigators have launched a new website aimed at solving bank robberies in St. Louis and elsewhere in eastern Missouri.

BanditTrackerStLouis.com includes photos of at-large suspects, details about the holdups, and maps.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Roland Corvington said the internet is an efficient way to gather tips.

"If you're a member of the public and you live in the area in which the bank was robbed, or you frequent the bank as a customer, you may be able to identify the person who committed the bank robbery," Corvington said.

Corvington said of the 59 bank holdups in the FBI's eastern Missouri district so far this year, nearly a third remain unsolved.

He said robberies are up over last year, but still far from 2002's record of 77.
