Final respects paid to slain St. Louis police officer

Together with mourners, members of the St. Louis Police Department paid final respects to Officer Daryl Hall this morning at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Hall was shot and killed while trying to break up an off-duty incident last weekend.

St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay said the tragedy underscores the sacrifice officers are asked to make, even while off duty.

"They serve and protect, they also risk their lives as we've seen here today,” Slay said. “Officer Daryl Hall has shown that a police officer's job is not done and their commitment to our community and to protect and serve our community is not done when their off duty."

St. Louis Police Chief Dan Isom spoke at Hall's service, and said the tragedy is a somber reminder of how much officer's are asked to sacrifice.

"We hope that the community prays for our police department and our family and recognizes the hard work and sacrifice that officers make on a daily basis,” Isom said. “And we will be with Officer Hall's family as they deal with this tragic loss."

Hall was a five-year veteran of the Metropolitan Police Department.

He was killed outside a downtown nightclub while investigating the sound of gunshots.  The shooter, Asif Blake of Hazelwood, Mo. was also killed.
