St. Louis, MO. – A human case of West Nile Virus has been reported in St. Louis County.
Health officials say the 51-year-old man from north St. Louis County has recovered.
County spokesman Craig LeFebvre says serious cases of West Nile in humans are relatively rare.
"It's still an opportunity when we have something like to remind people of the need to cut down on the mosquito population by following some pretty basic precautions of keeping standing water off your property and things like that."
LeFebvre says it's important to dump water that's gathered at least once a week.
Missouri has had only one other confirmed case of West Nile this year, in Clark County in the northeast part of the state.
West Nile first showed up in Missouri in 2002. Since then, about 450 have contracted the illness and 24 have died.
