First Female Speaker of the Missouri House Looks Ahead

By T. Weber, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – The woman who will become the next Speaker of the Missouri House says Republicans hope to keep their promise of sending more Lottery money to schools. Catherine Hanaway of suburban St. Louis says improving education and creating jobs are dependent on each other. She says a good job market will be more educated, and better schools attract businesses which is why more gambling money should go to schools.

Republicans will take control of the Missouri House and Senate for the first time since 1948 when the new Legislature is sworn in January 8.
