St. Louis – Former Health and Human Services Secretary and Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson will be in St. Louis Wednesday to lead a discussion on Medicaid.

Specifically, Thompson said he's looking for ways states are dealing with rising costs that threaten to bust their budgets.

"What I'm trying to do is go to states that are trying innovative things and see how they're working and then put together a package and say 'these are programs that states are doing that show great promise and other states should take the opportunity to look at them," Thompson said.

Missouri last year cut tens of thousands of people off Medicaid as a way to save money.

Thompson said his final report, which will come out later, might offer ideas Missouri could use to get some of those people coverage without spending too much money.
