Former Rams RB arrested for trying to run over teens

By AP/KWMU

Los Angeles, CA – Former Rams running back Lawrence Phillips was arrested Sunday after police say he ran a car into three teenagers in Los Angeles.

Police say Phillips was playing in a pickup football game when he got into an argument. He left and returned in a car that he drove onto the field, running down three of the teens.

Their injuries were not life-threatening.

The arrest represents more legal trouble for Phillips. Police had been seeking him since earlier this month for allegedly attacking his girlfriend twice, once choking her into unconsciousness.

The Rams drafted the former University of Nebraska star in 1996, despite pleading no contest to a charge of domestic violence. He was later released for insubordination but signed with the Miami Dolphins. They released Phillips after he pleaded no contest to hitting a woman in a nightclub.

Phillips also played pro football in Canada. Two teams dropped him for behavioral problems.
