St. Louis, MO – The former mayor of St. Peters begins an 18-month sentence in federal prison after his conviction for taking a bribe.
Shawn Brown, 35, was sentenced in January and began serving his term Thursday at a minimum-security prison near Duluth, Minnesota.
The facility has about 850 male inmates and is a former Air Force base.
Brown resigned as mayor of the St. Charles County town in October after admitting he solicited and accepted a bribe of nearly three-thousand dollars from the company installing red light cameras.
Authorities say Brown threatened to veto legislation authorizing the camera system unless the company paid him.
