Programming note: St. Louis on the Air will return at 10 p.m. with a special live check-in with St. Louis Public Radio reporters and editors covering the community's response to the Stockley verdict. You can listen live and follow updates from our Twitter account at @STLonAir.

The audio embedded below is from an earlier version of the program, which aired at 12 p.m.

On Friday’s St. Louis on the Air, contributing host Steve Potter discussed St. Louis Circuit Judge Timothy Wilson's Friday morning ruling that a former St. Louis Metropolitan Police officer is not guilty of first degree murder in the 2011 shooting of Anthony Lamar Smith. The verdict has set off long-promised protests in downtown St. Louis.

Joining the program on Friday to discuss was St. Louis Public Radio's Executive Editor Shula Neuman, with reports from the field with St. Louis Public Radio reporter Ryan Delaney. We also hear from Attorney and Southerin Illinois University - Carbondale Journalism Professor Bill Freivogel about the legal ramifications of the verdict.
