Gay & Lesbian rights group lauds new sex offender law

By KCUR

Kansas City, MO – A gay and lesbian rights organization in Missouri is a new sex offender law that Gov. Matt Blunt signed this week.

PROMO, Personal Rights of Missourians, says the new law eliminates language that was on the books that made all practicing gays and lesbians criminals.

"We saw this as an opportunity to get that outdated and unconstitutional language off the books once and for all and all of the legislators agreed that it was the right thing to do," said PROMOs Lisa Brueggemann.

A 2003 U.S. Supreme Court decision in a Texas case invalidated criminalizing consenting adult same-sex acts, but the Missouri law remained on the books.
