Gov. Nixon To Deliver Missouri State Of The State Address Jan. 28

Mo. Gov. Jay Nixon (D).

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon (D) will deliver his 2013 State of the State Address three weeks from today.

Nixon will use the address to lay out his proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2014, which begins in July.  It will include his proposal to draw down federal dollars to expand Medicaid to an additional 300,000 Missourians.  That part of the address will likely draw silence or a stray boo from the GOP majority, which has vowed not to expand Medicaid over concerns that the state’s share in coming years will result in a heavier tax burden for Missouri residents.  It will be Nixon’s fifth address, and will come two weeks after his second term is set to begin.

The State of the State Address is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 28. St. Louis Public Radio will carry the address live, and will also provide the Republican Response afterward.
