Governor Requests Audit of St. Louis Schools

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU News

St. Louis, MO – The governor's request follows repeated calls from parents groups and the St. Louis teachers union who question the district's reported $90 million budget deficit. In a formal letter, Holden urged McCaskill to undertake the audit immediately and to complete it as quickly as possible. The St. Louis school board issued a brief statement in support of an audit, saying, "It is in our best interests to ensure the public has a good understanding of the financial issues that have required us to move decisively to restore financial stability for the district. In response, McCaskill's office says it's now considering how to best proceed with an audit.
