St. Louis, MO – An advocacy group called the Mentally Retarded Citizens of Missouri wants the state's head of mental retardation services to resign.

The call follows allegations of systematic abuse at the Bellefontaine Habilitation Center in suburban St. Louis. The allegations include a report of a man beaten to death.

The group says Anne Deaton has not paid enough attention to the quality of care people receive at the state's five care centers for the mentally disabled.

Deaton heads the division of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, the office in state government that oversees the center.

The state and police are investigating the death and other allegations of workers abusing residents.
