Hanley bridge over I-64 re-opems

By Rachel Lippmann

St. Louis, MO – The Missouri Department of Transportation has opened the new Hanley Road bridge over Interstate 64 a month ahead of schedule.

Officials cut the ribbon on the new bridge on Friday. Traffic on Brentwood Boulevard has been snarled since December, when the Hanley bridge first closed.

"And then since June first, we've also had the Big Bend bridge closed. So opening Hanley today is not only provide relief to Brentwood but also to all the small neighborhood streets within Richmond Heights," said Linda Wilson the MoDOT spokeswoman on the project.

Good weather allowed the contractors to finish ahead of schedule, she said. "Even though we've had rain, the rain has come at times that have not hurt our schedule the way they did last year."

Drivers trying to get from Eager Road to Hanley Road will still need to use the Meridian Road detour. The route runs behind the shopping center at the intersection. On Monday, crews will open the Oakland Ave. overpass and close the crossing at Clayton, which is the last major closure of the project. McCausland Ave. will be reduced to one lane in each direction for 10 weeks for paving.
