Jefferson City, Mo. – Missouri Governor Bob Holden vetoed a bill Tuesday that would have forced home-owners and builders in Missouri to mediate disputes outside of court.

The measure called for a detailed process to be followed before filing a lawsuit over problems with the house.

Holden said it would have been too hard for home-buyers to be compensated for defects.

He also vetoed a bill that would have loosened some restrictions on large animal-farms.

Its provisions for local government standards for animal-feeding operations were more restrictive than federal and state law.

But Holden said the bill also loosened restrictions on water pollution, in violation of federal law.

Also vetoed were resolutions to set up a committee to study the forestry industry.

Holden said the panel would hae been unable to achieve its goals.
