The Delmar bridge over Interstate 170 as it looked to MoDOT inspectors in April. I-170 will be closed from May 20-23 so crews can demolish the bridge and begin work on its replacement.

Interstate 170 near the Delmar Blvd. bridge will close at 7 p.m. Friday, May 20 so crews with Millstone Bangert can remove the aging structure and begin construction on its replacement.

Through traffic on the interstate will detour using the exit and entrance ramps to Delmar. Drivers on Delmar will not be able to access I-170. The detours are Price Road and Hanley Road. The Missouri Department of Transportation is encouraging drivers to avoid the area if possible while the detours are in place.

All lanes of the highway should re-open by 5 a.m. May 23. The $2.1 million replacement project will begin as soon as the old bridge is demolished, and be finished by September 1.

Work was originally supposed to start after Memorial Day, but the Missouri Department of Transportation closed the bridge on April 25 after an inspection found it was no longer safe for travel.  That moved construction up by about two weeks.
