I-270 Reopened After Fiery Crash

Bellefontaine Neighbors, MO – Eastbound I-270 is open again at Rt. 367 this morning after a crash yesterday closed the road for hours.

A Fed-Ex truck carrying two trailers crashed into a highway sign and burst into flames. The driver says he was trying to avoid a car that had swerved into his path.

The tall flames and the cargo of packages initially raised the concern of Missouri's homeland security chief, Tim Daniel. But Daniel the state Highway Patrol assured him the fire was the result of an accident that ruptured the truck's gas tank.

No one was injured though the truck was destroyed. It was carrying packages from Kansas City to Columbus, Ohio.
