MoDot says I-64 will close from Jefferson to the Poplar Street Bridge starting at 8 p.m. Friday evening, July 15.

The Missouri Department of Transportation will be closing all lanes of Interstate 64 between Jefferson Avenue and Hampton Avenue starting at 8 p.m. Friday night until 5 a.m. Monday morning.

The closures are part of a 3 month project to replace the 50 year old Jefferson overpass.

Eastbound on-ramps will be closed from McCausland to Ewing, and westbound on-ramps will be closed from Broadway to Grand.

The Jefferson Bridge itself will close at 7 p.m. Friday.

After lanes reopen on Monday, the project will occasionally require two lanes of I-64 to be closed in both directions on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and can occur at any time during weekends.

When these closures occur, special events will be taken into consideration.

“We definitely will continue to work with the Cardinals, the Blues, with folks holding events in the downtown area, to make sure that when they have those games that we have ways for people to get there,” says MoDOT spokesperson Andrew Gates.

MoDOT has stated that they will make concerted efforts to open all eastbound lanes an hour before Cardinals home games, and all westbound lanes an hour after the games.
