By AP/KWMU

St. Louis – Heavy rains that swept through Missouri Sunday are being blamed for two deaths in the St. Louis area and another in Columbia.

Officials say 49-year-old Joan Dankner of Ladue died after she was hit by a tree limb during the storm.

And in University City, a elderly man was found dead behind a home with a flooded backyard. Authorities believe he drowned.

Officials in Columbia, Mo. say a 21-year-old woman was swept away by floodwaters while trying to help a man.

Some sections of the state got up to seven inches of rain, accompanied by winds that reached 60 mph.

At one point, more than 100,000 customers of AmerenUE were without power in the St. Louis area. Emergency workers also conducted several water rescues in the area.
