IL Grand Jury Will Hear Police Shooting Case

By AP/KWMU

Edwardsville, Ill. – A grand jury in Edwardsville will decide whether police officers were justified in shooting an Alton man to death.

Madison County sheriff's deputies and Alton city police both shot 35-year old Cloyd Kenshalo on May 21; it happened after a high speed car chase.

Kenshalo crashed the car into a fence and was shot at least seven times. His relatives contend that police did not have to shoot him.

The grand jury will hear evidence and may decide the shooting was justified or return criminal indictments against the officers.

The Public Integrity Unit of the Illinois State Police is also investigating.
