Ill. State Senator takes leave for cancer treatment

Ill. State Senator John Sullivan announced today that he is stepping away from his day-to-day duties for two to three weeks to receive cancer treatment.

Sullivan represents the west central part of the state, including Quincy.

In a press release, Sullivan said that he has a “rare but extremely treatable form of cancer called liposarcoma.

“Obviously this is a very personal issue,” Sullivan said in a press release.  “However, I’ve worked hard throughout my tenure in office to be upfront with my constituents, and in that spirit wanted the public to know about this situation.”

Sullivan said that members of his staff would field constituent requests in his absence.
