Illinois Dominating Nobel Prizes So Far

Stockholm, Sweden – Of the six Nobel Prize winners that have so far been named in Sweden this past week, three live in Illinois and a fourth has a tie to the state.

On Tuesday morning, another University of Illinois professor won the Nobel Prize. Anthony Leggett will share the Physics Award with Russian Vitaly Ginzburg and Alexi Abrikosov, who works at Argonne National Lab near Chicago. Monday, University of Illinois professor Paul Lauterbur was named co-winner of the Nobel Prize in Medicine.

The Nobel Prize in Literature was given last week to John Maxwell Coetzee, of South Africa. He has been a Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago since 2002.

Other
