Illinois Governor Visits Tamaroa Site of Derailed Train

By AP/KWMU

Tamaroa, Illinois – Governor Rod Blagojevich paid a visit to Tamaroa today where a freight train carrying hazardous chemicals derailed
earlier this month.

The governor told about 100 police and fire workers and townspeople that crews won't stop working until the train wreckage
is cleared away.

A 21-car freight train derailed February Ninth while passing through this southern Illinois town.

Nearly one thousand people were evacuated for days in and around the town.

Though everyone has returned, some residents are worried their property values will fall as a result of the derailment.

Blagojevich says the best way to protect property values is to bring jobs to the area.

The governor says it is one of his priorities.

Tamaroa is located about 65 miles southeast of St. Louis near Du
Quoin.
