Illinois Legislators Pass 30-day Budget

By AP/KWMU

Springfield, Ill – With the governor and legislative leaders still fighting over a state budget a day into the new budget year, Illinois lawmakers approved a one-month interim spending plan Thursday to keep government operating.

Both the House and the Senate approved an interim 30-day, short-term core services budget.

The spending plan now goes to Governor Rod Blagojevich's desk.

That version provides a full-year spending plan but ends that proposal as of August 1.

The plan will make sure employees receive their paychecks and state contracts are fulfilled but cuts back travel and many other expenses for a month.
