InBev makes offer for Anheuser-Busch

The much anticipated bid from InBev for the St. Louis brewery came through Wednesday at $65 a share. The A-B board says it will be considering the proposal carefully.

In a statement Wednesday, A-B said: "The board will review the merits of the proposal consistent with its fiduciary duties and in consultation with its financial and legal advisers. The board will pursue the course of action that is in the best interests of Anheuser-Busch's stockholders." The board is expected to make its decision regarding the deal in "due course," it said.

InBev says it has strong support from financial institutions and that it sees "significant opportunities to internationalize Anheuser-Busch's key brands and would position Budweiser as the combined company's flagship brand, leveraging InBev's expansive international footprint."

It also vowed to keep key members of the management team and all of its U.S. breweries while offering to rename the company to "evoke the heritage" of Anheuser-Busch brands. | Wall Street Journal, Marketwatch   "I think shareholders are going to be pretty pleased with that price,'' Donald Yacktman , an Anheuser-Busch investor who oversees $1 billion as president of Yacktman Asset Management, said in a Bloomberg Television interview. |
