Highland, Ill. – Authorities say two people killed in a fiery, chain-reaction wreck on Interstate 70 near St. Louis yesterday were from Indiana.
Illinois State Police say Jerald Jaynes, 52, was driving a tractor-trailer when he failed to stop for a traffic jam near Highland.
Jaynes' rig caught fire when he hit another semi. Riding with him was William Burleson. Both men died at the scene. Two other drivers suffered minor injuries.
Police say traffic had been backed up on the freeway because of an earlier accident two miles ahead
Westbound lanes were closed for several hours.
