Town and Country, MO – Peter Jacobsen won the U.S. Senior Open by one shot Sunday at the Bellerive Country Club in west St. Louis County.

Golfers had to play two rounds on Sunday because rain washed out play on Friday.

Jacobsen had a sore hip but was still able to rally to win the Open after Tom Kite double-bogeyed the final hole.

Jacobsen shot a 68 (-3) over the final 18 and was (-12) for the tournament, one stroke ahead of Hale Irwin. Kite played (4+) for the last four holes and finished third at (-10), tied with Jay Haas.

Jacobsen was forced to pull out of two previous tournaments, following hip surgery, and had to walk 36 holes Sunday. It was the first time the field at a Champions Tour event played 36 holes in one day.
