Judge Changes His Mind, Delays Cigarette Trial

By AP/KWMU

Edwardsville, Ill. – A Madison County judge haschanged his mind and postponed a lawsuit against a cigarettecompany.

R.J. Reynolds was slated to go on trial next week in Edwardsville.

Plaintiffs who smoke the company's light cigarettes claim they are just as harmful as regular brands, and they say they were
misled.

Judge George Moran yesterday postponed the trial while the state Supreme Court decides an appeal of a similar case.

Earlier this year, Philip Morris was ordered to pay more than ten billion dollars for tricking people into thinking light cigarettes were better for their health.

Moran now says the Philip Morris case is more relevant than he originally thought. The case will now be put off for at least 90 days.
