Judge Says Gun Suit Will Say in St. Louis

By Matt Sepic, KWMU

St. Louis – St. Louis Judge Steven Ohmer has ruled that a lawsuit seeking to stop Missouri's new concealed guns law should be heard in St. Louis.

Attorney General Jay Nixon had sought to have the case moved to Cole County, where most constitutional challenges to state law are heard.

Nixon said he will fight the suit, despite personal opposition to the new gun law.

"As a politician, I don't support conceal and carry," Nixon said. "But I think it's my job to defend the laws whether I agree with them or I don't agree with them, and we do so."

Concealed carry is set to take effect Saturday.

A group of elected officials, mainly from the St. Louis area, say in their suit that Missouri's 1875 constitution prohibits concealed guns.
