St. Louis, MO – Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster said that he and 20 other attorneys general are asking the online classified ads website backpage.com to drop its adult services section.
Koster said that they are concerned that the backpage.com section is being used to promote prostitution.
"Anybody who goes on these sites and takes a look at the type of advertisements that are occurring, the types of photography, the hourly rates, the dollar-per-hour requests, would be left with little to no doubt that many, many of these ads are directly related to prostitution," Koster said Tuesday.
Koster was also among the state attorneys general to negotiate with Craiglist to remove its adult services section, which it did last week.
Village Voice is also being sued in Missouri for allowing a woman to advertise a 14-year-old girl for sex on backpage.com.
