Lawmakers Consider Abortion Consent Bill

By B. Raack, KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – A Republican state senator from St. Louis County wants to give parents the ability to sue those that help a minor cross state lines for an abortion.

Missouri has an informed consent law, which requires at least one parent to approve of their minor child's abortion. Illinois has no such law, however, and Senator John Loudon of Ballwin says pregnant teens are getting help from others to travel across the river for abortion services.

Representatives of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Area oppose Loudon's bill, saying it will target very few pregnant teens that may not include their parents due to sexual or physical abuse.
