At least five injured after school bus overturns in Washington County
Updated 4:53 p.m. to reflect that at least five people have been reported as injured. Original reports stated three people, those airlifted, as the only injuries.
At least five people have been injured, three of whom were airlifted to a St. Louis hospital, after a school bus accident in rural eastern Missouri.
The accident happened this afternoon in Belgrade, Mo., about 80 miles southwest of St. Louis.
It involved a bus carrying students in the Valley R-6 School District in Washington County.
It wasn't immediately clear if any other vehicles were involved.
The bus reportedly overturned and some students were initially trapped. Mal Gum, administrator for the Washington County Ambulance District, says three people were flown to a St. Louis hospital, but he wasn't sure if they were all children.
He says other students on the bus appeared to have mostly minor injuries.
Messages left with the school district were not returned.
The small district has about 400 students in kindergarten through high school.
