The Lens: Mr. Bond's wonder emporium

This article first appeared in the St. Louis Beacon: July 7, 2008 - I feel like the kid who pointed out that the emperor was naked, but now that the trailer for the next James Bond movie has been released - you can watch it here - there's something that needs to be addressed.

I know a lot of people were very impressed by "Casino Royale," but I personally think it will eventually set in that 75 percent of the positive reaction it got was simply an unconscious sense of relief that it wasn't "Die Another Day." Still, as long as we're all pretty sure that Bond won't be getting that invisible car out of storage, expectations for the new film will be very high. So, as long as we're going to have to endure another five months of promotion, there's one subject that we all need to face.

Has there ever been a worse movie title than "Quantum of Solace"? What are they thinking? What does it mean? It almost makes me want to apologize for making fun of that "Mr. Magorium" movie last year.

And this is coming from the same franchise that changed the name of an earlier installment, "Licence Revoked," because they were afraid audiences wouldn't know what "revoked" meant.
