St. Louis – Lightning killed a mail carrier Tuesday afternoon.
Christina Jones, 34, was struck while seeking shelter under a tree in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson. She died at a hospital within an hour.
Witnesses say the force of the strike knocked Jones' shoes and hat off and tattered her clothes.
Co-workers and friends say Jones was the mother of a 6-year-old son.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says this was the sixth lightning-related death in the United States this year.
