Limited Supply Of Flu Vaccines Still Available

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – As of December 10, there were 339 confirmed cases of flu in St. Louis city and county - more than five times the usual number for this time of year.

Akan Ukoeninn, chief of communicable diseases for the St. Louis health department says the city has just over 1,000 doses of the vaccine available for children and adults:

"We have walk-ins for children and appointments for adults at this time," Ukoeninn said. "Because children and the older people are much more at risk, we try to accommodate as much as possible."

The St. Louis County health department is accepting children on a walk-in basis, says the department's Kelly Guertzgen:

"Those shots will be given to county children that are six months of age to 18 years of age," Guertzgen said. "And we do still have vaccine available, we just recommend that parents bring their children as soon as possible because the vaccine is going out very quickly; there's a very high demand right now."
