Local Quilter Shares Her Designs

Susan Marth designs quilts for all occasions.  But her favorite ones are not bed covers.  Instead, they include wall hangings, table runners, lap quilts and even quilted jackets.  One of her creations pays tribute to Abraham Lincoln, the favorite son of her native state of Illinois, while another immortalizes the Missouri writer, Mark Twain.

The mention of quilting might conjure up the picture of “little old ladies:” in a church basement.  But Marth began quilting as a young stay-at-home mom.  She works on her quilting in between cooking, cleaning and shopping for her family of 5.  When friends and family encouraged her to share her designs, she put them onto patterns.  While Marth enjoys the process of designing, many others prefer to use patterns they can copy.  She has written several books and offers a wide variety of patterns on herwebsite.

Marth was Steve Potter’s guest on “Cityscape.”  The discussion included the stories behind her Lincoln and Twain quilts, the process of designing and sewing a quilt and a picture of the modern-day quilter.
