Man arrested in alleged attempt to blow up federal courthouse

By AP/St. Louis Public Radio

Springfield, Ill. – A 29-year-old man has been arrested on charges that accuse him of planning to bomb the federal courthouse in Springfield, Illinois and kill employees there.

Authorities say Michael Finton, also known as "Talib Islam," was taken into custody by federal agents Thursday on charges he planned to attack the building with a vehicle bomb.

Federal officials say the case had nothing to do with the major terrorism investigation under way in Colorado and New York.

Finton appeared before a federal judge yesterday. He waived a hearing on the charges and was ordered held pending a grand jury indictment.
