St. Louis – St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay will not appeal a recent ruling that essentially rejected early voting in Missouri.
People currently can vote absentee before the election, but only with an excuse for why they won't be able to on Election Day
The lawsuit aimed to let people vote before the November election without needing an excuse.
But a judge last week said the law in question did not require early voting, it only required election officials to come up with a plan for it.
A spokesman for the mayor said appealing might produce a legal victory too close to election day and catch election officials off guard.
Missouri House Speaker Catherine Hanaway set up a legislative committee to study the issue, but not for the 2004 General Election.
