Jefferson City, MO – Claire McCaskill on Friday criticized lucrative deals given to university presidents.
She cited the Southwest Missouri State University package for its outgoing president as just the latest example.
President Ed Keiser is leaving but will keep his salary and benefits for another year in exchange for some appearances and fund raising work as the president emeritus.
McCaskill, the Democratic state auditor, is running for governor in November against Republican Secretary of State Matt Blunt.
McCaskill says that, as auditor, she sent out a letter today to all of the state's public colleges and universities asking for details of retirement packages for their top administrators.
Blunt says such decisions are best left to university officials.
